Devilsbit Macra News
Three members of Devilsbit Macra - Paudie Meade, Tim Maher and Sarah Guilfoyle - were lucky enough to represent North Tipperary at a recent European Young Farmers conference hosted by Macra na Feirme. Macra National President, Alan Jagoe alongside EU Commissioner Dacian Ciolos and Chairman of the Council of Agricultural Ministers, Simon Coveney, addressed more than 90 young farmers from 26 European CEJA member countries at Castleknock Hotel in Dublin. The conference heard that “There are just 7.5% of farmers in the EU under 35 and that figure is the same here in Ireland. But there are also as many farmers over 80 as there are under 35.”
Following the conference the Macra members attended a reception hosted by President Michael D Higgins at Aras an Uachtarain. They spoke with President Higgins who proved to be an excellent and generous host. The reception was followed with a gala dinner in Trinity College and the day was rounded off with a visit to Temple Bar.
Lakeside Pitch & Putt
Captains Michael Fennell and Helen Mc Morrow hosted their drive-in on Sunday last. A fine crowd turned out in bitterly cold conditions to get the years action underway. The format was an 18 hole 3-ball scramble and when all the totting was complete Frances Ryan, Anthony Maher and Ian Delahunty sent up the white smoke on 14 under. The fine spread in the clubhouse was most welcome on such a raw day. Thanks also to Michael and Margaret Finn for their continued sponsorship of this event. The John Shoer Memorial takes place at Lakeside on Easter Monday. Tee times are between 8am and 1pm with Final 18 around 4pm. Entry fee a tenner. Remember you must be a fully paid up member to participate. See poster in clubhouse for details. Congrats also to Frances and Seamus Ryan who celebrate 30 years of wedded bliss this week. Heard they’re gone on a fishing trip to Killenaule!!!!! Notice to all. Closing dates for County, Provincial and National competitions will be coming thick and fast over the next couple of weeks so it’s up to you to make sure all is in order. Clubhouse is now open again for the year so the committee would like to wish all who come through the gate that you have an enjoyable time at Lakeside.
