Birr & District Motor Club - Laois stages Car Rally will be staging their annual event on Sunday, 26th February in this area.
Appeals are made for everyone’s support and co-operation of this special occasion. For the safe running of this event is dependent on the residents of the area. Detailed information about the rally will be issued nearer to the date, such as time of road closures, emergency procedures etc., with the successful running of this rally it is hoped to make financial donations to the Knockaroo Church Building Fund and Donaghmore Church Repair Fund. Party - On Sunday, 8th January the annual Christmas party for the Senior Citizens of Ballacolla was held in the Hawthorn Lounge. There was a very large attendance at the function and it was an excellent party enjoyed by all. Dinner was served by Sheelagh Maher and her staff. All were very high in their praise of the quality of the meal and the treats that went with it. Music and dancing followed with the music supplied by Laurence Campion. Well done to a great function and a wonderful lady. Eldest guests were Sean Bergin and Brian Loughman.
The Late Joe Dunne - The death occurred on December 24th in Philadelphia, U.S.A. of Joe Dunne following a short illness. He was a native of Ballagh, Errill and was connected to Cullahill by his father. Joe is very sadly mourned by his heartbroken wife Elizabeth, sons Patrick and Stephen, daughters Michaela and Jennifer, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, brothers Tom, Sean, Noel and William, sisters Mary and Teresa, relatives, friends and all who knew Joe at home.
Requiem Mass was celebrated in St. Peter and Paul’s Church and burial took place in the adjoining cemetery in Philadelphia. On Sunday, January 22nd the Month’s Mind Mass was held for Joe in the Church of Our Lady, Queen of the Universe, Errill.
