Important Meeting - After the recent announcement about the closure of bogs around Ireland in which our own parish of Redwood, Lorrha and Rathcabbin will be affected, a very important public information meeting will be held on Monday night, July 11th. in the G.A.A. clubhouse Motefield at 9 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to form a committee and also to hear what the present situation is regarding bogs in our area. In attendance will be a farmers delegate and also a turf cutters delegate from the recently formed board ‘Peatland Ireland’ which was set up by the Government to negotiate the future of ownership and usage of bogs. The announcement of the closure of bogs some month’s back, has caused great concern to many who depend on turf to heat their homes and for cooking purposes and has caused a lot of disquiet throughout Ireland with hundreds of people attending meetings to try and reach agreements regarding this decision which could cause hardship for many. This is a very serious matter for all people using and depending on turf and indeed for the future of our bogs. All turf bank owners in the above area are invited to attend this meeting.
