The second annual Kincora Traditional Weekend was an overwhelming success with capacity attendances at all Concerts, Recitals, Music Sessions, and Workshops. This event is the first of a series of Festivals over the next three months that include Brian Ború on the Hill Music Festival:
May 3rd Choral Celebration in St. Flannan’s Cathedral: Tipperary County Fleadh: Clare County Fleadh: 2014 Brian Ború Millennium celebrations: Féile Brian Ború. Throughout the weekend traditional musicians from all over Ireland, the UK, Scotland, Holland, Japan, the US ( including a 12-strong “Gathering” of the Scanlan clan”) converged on Killaloe-Ballina and received a truly warm reception from the community.
The highlight of the weekend must surely have been the Sunday Parade when up to sixty pipers from The Thomas Mc Donagh Pipe Band in Templemore and The Tulla Pipe Band paraded, in glorious sunshine, from the Church on The Green to Flanagan’s Green and received a warm welcome from hundreds of spectators along the route.
The generosity of many, many members of our Killaloe-Ballina communities will be acknowledged in next week’s publications. Well done to the organising committee for such a successful and entertaining festival – Michael Hackett, Michael Scanlan, Paul Smyth, Padraig Hyland, Deirdre Scanlan, Anne Benson, Mairéad Ryan, Catríona Shortt, Fiodhna Gardiner-Hyland and Sadie Scanlan.
