Nenagh General Hospital has asked North Tipperary Sports Partnership to correspond to all sports clubs on its database to point out the services that are available at the hospital.
The sports body points out in its letter to clubs that Nenagh General Hospital went from being a local emergency unit in September 2012 to being a Local Injuries Unit.
This unit focuses exclusively on the care of individuals over the age of five with minor injuries.
In a letter NTSP received from the HSE, it states that the Local Injuries Unit is staffed by three medical staff, supported by an advanced nurse practitioner in emergency care, and is open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. It also points out that additional emergency support is provided by the A&E at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, which is now called University Hospital, Limerick.
However, the letter warns that people should use the service in Nenagh Hospital when suitable as the waiting times would be much shorter that larger hospitals in the region.
