At Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann Annual Congress last week-end 4th/5th May in Culturlann, Monkstown, there was a full house both days with good representation from Britain, United States and Ireland.
This year it was about changing Fleadh rules with 64 Motions on the Agenda, so there was eloquent discussions on for and against with some motions being referred to Ard Comhairle. Some delegates were fluent with great powers of persuasion. There was a great Concert on Saturday night, some artistes from Bru Boru taking part including well known harpist Mary Kelly and singer Nora Butler.
There will be a great Ceili in Lakeside Hotel Ballina with well known Johnny Reidy Band this Sunday 12th May 2.30p.m. to 5.30pm. A lively afternoon is assured.
There will be many events next week on run up to Competition week-end in Bun Scoil an Atha. Also Ceili and Set Dancing on Sunday in Parish Hall, Ballina on Sunday 19th May. Aifreann Tradisunta in Seipeal St. Lua, Ballina at 11.30a.m. on Sunday 19th May. (D.V.) The “Gathering “ Awards will be held in O’Donovans on Wednesday 15th May at 8p.m. to those musicians who promoted our traditional culture overseas, the late Paddy O’Brien, Jim Lawlor, Michael Cooney, Billy Greenall, Billy Clifford, Bobby Gardiner and Jimmy O’Sullivan. All are welcome. Official Opening on Friday 17th May, Guest Speaker Ard Stuirthoir Senator Labhras O’Murchu in Bun Scoil an Atha at 8p.m. Concert afterwards. All are welcome.
