Derry Quirke This Annual Walk commemorates all those who died during the Great Famine and the 1848 Rising which took place in Ballingarry in the middle of the Famine. The Rebel Leaders were transported to Van Diemen’s Land. The Walk began at the National Flag monument in The Commons and proceeded to the Famine Warhouse. The distance of 1 ½ miles was covered at an easy pace. This is the seventh year of the event which has become a parish occasion. At the end of the Walk, Fr.
