Due to cutbacks, the FAS Community Employment Scheme in Borris in Ossory has not been funded since December 2011, other than wages for the six participants involved.

This year Borris in Ossory Development has received donations from St Joseph’s School, GAA, Sieve Bloom Residents Association, Ossory Court Residents Association, Glenall Residents Association, St Mark’s Church, Sisters of Mercy and from private individuals which helped fund work done to date.

However, finance is now very low due to the cost of fuel, repairs etc. The Children’s Playground is now back on the agenda, the site being the 0.48 acre field owned by Laois County Council which was turned down three years ago as being too small. The cost of the playground will be approximately €80,500 (inc VAT). It is hoped that most of the cost will be grant aided but there will have to be some local contribution.

A meeting of all interested parties will be held in St Canice’s Hall tonight Thursday August 2 at 8pm.
