Liam Reid, Billy Fennell and Michael Kiely attended the O.N.E. Annual Convention and A.G.M. which was held in the Crystal Hotel in Cavan week-ending June 15th.-17th. last, where they met with Gerry Fogarty formerly from Templetuohy.

Gerry joined the 9th. Field Battery (FCA) in the early 1960’s at the tender age of 15 years where his love of the artillery gun developed. He later joined the regular army and following his recruit taining he was posted to the Artillery School in Kildare.

On each occasion that the Regiment travelled to the Glen of Imaal Gerry was on hand to ensure the rounds found their target rather than the town of Blessington or the Glen Lounge!.

On leaving the Army he became a member of St. Barbara’s O.N.E. branch in Kildare. St. Barbara is the patron Saint of Artillery. Gerry’s contribution to O.N.E. has been enormous and he played a significant role in the purchase of the first O.N.E. home in Dublin in the early 1990’s.

He held the highest office in the Organisation having served as National Chairman and later as National President. When the Organisation changed to a company in the 1990’s with charitable status Gerry became a director, a position he held until recently. On behalf of the Pearse McCan branch we thank Gerry for his work on behalf of all ex-service personnel around the country.
