It has been a very successful year for the Killea School of Traditional Music, the culmination of which was the Christmas Show.
A Tuition and Instrument grant from Leader have greatly helped the School in setting up. Both grants have been fully spent and have secured a very dedicated team of music tutors and a bank of instruments for rental.
The School is run on a term by term basis with an enrolment night at the start of each term. Students have regular opportunity to show case their progress at the monthly Oiche Ceoil. There are currently 77 students on roll with the School.
The School currently offers classes in:
• Bodhrán (Tutor: Dan Barry)
• Tin Whistle (Tutor: Cillian Roche)
• Fiddle (Tutor: Marie Sheedy)
• Concertina & Accordion (Tutor: Rory Kennedy)
• Guitar (Tutor: Siobhán Bailey & Dominic Gallagher)
There have been three successful Bodhrán Workshops this year and they hope to offer Singing Workshops and Banjo classes in the coming year.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped the Music school in it’s early days, with particular thanks going to Roisín Barrett for her dedication and time.
The School is now run under its own committee made up of Martina Hamell (Chairperson), Roisín Barrett (Secretary) and Sarah Costigan (Treasurer).
