Roscrea Community Development Council (RCDC) has arranged to meet with the Garda Chief Superintendent concerning Roscrea Garda Station.
On Thursday night, members heard Garda Chief Supt Catherine Kehoe reply to Hon. Secretary of RCDC, Steve Crofton, stating that she would be available to meet committee members.
RCDC had written to Garda Kehoe of the Tipperary Garda Division “in relation to Station rationalisation and its impact on Roscrea Garda Station”. Roscrea, which was part of the Templemore Garda Division is now part of the Nenagh Garda Division. Concerns had been expressed that Roscrea Garda Station might be closed during night hours and that such if it were to happen would have a very detrimental impact on policing in Roscrea.
Members also noted that the concept of ‘Community Policing’ was now more challenging than in former times as people were less connected generally, and this was also reflected in a disconnect between local community and Gardaí which posed an on-going challenge.
