Munster U12 Blitz
Cashel’s under 12s travelled to Rathkeale last Saturday to represent South Tipperary in the annual Munster blitz. They won their first two group games against Middleton of Cork and Aisling Annacotty from the Limerick league, leaving it all down to the result against Newcastlewest in the final game to decide the group winners.
Cashel took the lead in the first period with a brilliantly taken goal by Ellie Ryan, and looked like they were on their way to Dublin. The Limerick girls tried to get back into it after the break, but were reduced to long range efforts, and if anything, Cashel looked more likely to increase their lead. Then they let their opponents back into the game, when after a Cashel attack, the West girls broke quickly, and Cashel gave up their first goal of the day. The girls knew that a draw wouldn’t be enough, so they stormed forward in search of a second lead goal, but were again caught light at the back to go two one down. But the girls never lay down, and fought back again for Grace O Dwyer to cross a ball for Ciara Mulcaire to tap in and bring the teams level. The last five minutes were frantic but the game finished level, only for the Cashel girls to lose out to Newcastlewest on goal difference in the group.
