Due to popular demand the jewellery display in Templemore Library has been extended until the end of August. All items are for sale with proceeds going to North Tipperary Alzheimer Society.

Holycross Pilgrimage

The Pilgrimage of the Apostolate of Our Lady of Fatima takes place in Holycross Abbey next Sunday August 28th beginning at 2.30pm with the Rosary Procession and followed by Stations of the Cross, veneration of the Relic of the True Cross & Anointing of the sick. Concelebrated Mass led by Archbishop Dermot Clifford at 4pm.

School Of Music

Killea School of Traditional Music - Enrolment night for the following classes will take place on Tuesday Sept 6th: Tin Whistle, Guitar, Fiddle, Button Accordion, & Concertina. Button Accordion and Concertina lessons will be begin on Sat Sept 10th at 3pm with certified teacher Rory Kavanagh. Classes cater for ages 6 years up – teenagers and adults. All classes €70 per 13 week term, discount available for families. Instruments available for rental. All classes will take place in Killea Community Hall. Heritage Week

As part of Heritage Week the following events will be held: 1. A Lecture hosted by Tipperary Libraries will take place in the Source, Thurles on Thursday 25th August at 7.30pm. Title – “If maps could speak - the history of Ordnance Survey in Ireland”. Admission is free and all are welcome.

2. Platform Céile: (dancing, singing, story telling of bye gone days and music by local musicians) takes place on Friday 26th August beginning at 6.30pm at the farm at Cloncannon, Toomevara. If raining the céile will be moved indoors to Gortagarry hall. Contact 087-9227957 for details.

Tennis Continues

The tennis courts continue to be busy, but as the Midland League reaches its conclusion there is more evening and daily availability for casual attendance of present members. We would ask junior members to give way to adults after 6.30 p.m. The club would like to express sympathy to Sandra Russell on the recent death of her father, Donie. Speedy recovery to Gary on his knee operation, and hope to see him on court very soon. Killaloe Open week was enjoyed by a number of our club members but despite some great matches the silverware went elsewhere !

Badminton Resumes

Adult badminton restarts on Mon 12th Sept in Our Lady’s Secondary School Gym at 8 p.m. All standards from beginner through to advanced catered for, and coaching freely available.

Fitness and improved flexibility is painlessly achievable with regular attendance at the Mon and Thurs sessions.

Runners and racket the only required equipment. Looking forward to lots of new faces this coming Autumn - it is never to late to reinstate that New Year resolution.

St Joseph’s Primary

St Joseph’s Primary School will re-open for all pupils on Thursday 1st September at 9.10a.m. Junior Infants will be dismissed at 12.45pm, whilst usual closing times apply for all other classes. We look forward to welcoming everybody back.


FIT4LIFE - 4 Mile Track and Trail Run, 11th September, 2011.

Our 4 mile track and trail run is fast approaching, so we encourage all walkers, joggers and runners who plan to take part to continue with your training.  We also ask you to encourage your friends or family to come along - many people want to get fit and all they need is a little encouragement - and this run, over a flat course is an ideal opportunity. The run will start on the athletic track and then follow a route through the town park before finishing again back at the track. Each mile will be clearly marked and the run will be accurately timed.  Parking, registration, changing facilities, refreshments and prize giving will all take place at the track.  There will be a special momentum for all finishers and spot prizes also.  Registration for walkers, joggers and runners is 10.00 euro and will take place from 12.30 on the day.

This run is also ideal preparation for anyone taking part in the Tipperary Women’s Mini-Marathon which takes place the following Sunday in Clonmel. We remind our members and anyone else who is interested that the Moycarkey Coolcroo 7km Men and Women and 3k Fit4life events take place this Friday, 26th August, at 7.30pm.  Registration from 6.30 at the Community Hall in Two-Mile Borris.

Tidy Towns

Our Tidy Towns Group will concentrate on a general tidy up of the Railway Road/ Lacey Avenue area on Monday next August 29th. If you have a spare hour we would be delighted with the extra help.


Reading Tree at Templemore Library - Another very successful summer of reading has been undertaking by many children using the library. The reading tree will come to a close at the end of August and all children who have forms out are encouraged to return them as soon as they can.

Templemore AC

Masters Silver Lining - The final Track & Field of the season took place in Tullamore Harriers Athletic Stadium on Sunday last. This was the venue for the All Ireland Masters Competition.

Martin O’Brien (Roscrea) was first into action when he secured the silver medal in the Men’s 5000m Race Walk.

Johnny Doran who spent his year coaching other athletes then showed how it was done by running 2mn 0.79 seconds to win the silver medal in over 35 men, 800 m. Johnny later ran 56.58 sec to finish in 4th place in the 400m. These great events took place under the watchful eyes of delighted club coaches, Martin Leydon and Seamus Hartigan, and our young 800m athlete Ben Buttimer (u/15) who was trying to get tips from the real ‘Master’.

Athletics Jamboree - Friday Night September 30th at 6.30pm is the next date for ‘MCDonald’s Little Athletes’ for 5 to 10 year olds. The venue is again the Athletic Track. Participation is free of charge. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Boys and girls from all areas and towns are welcome to attend.

Church Gate Collection - The annual Church Gate Collection in aid of Templemore A.C. will take place this coming weekend August 27th/28th in Templemore/ Clonmore/ Killea. This is used to fund all the club activities throughout the year.

Training - All club activities will resume at 7pm on Wednesday 7th September. New members welcome.

Templemore Twin

Ladies Golf

Our president Aggie Tobin held her Prize Day on Saturday last with a great turnout for the Stableford Competition.

Aggie’s prayers for fine weather were answered by the Man Above, and the Senior ladies began the day with a 9 hole competition.

Over the course of the day there were many fine scores returned with Kay Brennan and Mary Hayes both sitting on 40 points. Kay was declared winner having the better second 9.

A sumptuous meal awaited us on arrival back into the clubhouse.

Presentation of prizes took place later on in the evening. In her speech Aggie congratulated the prize winners and thanked all who helped make her day such a special one, including Ger Devanney caterers and bar staff Mick and Sheila Keely.
