Cemetery Masses - Mass will be celebrated in Bealady Cemetery on Friday evening, June 17th at 7.30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated in the local cemetery on Friday evening, 24th June at 7.30 p.m. Grave owners in both cemeteries are requested to take care of their graves and the cemetery in readiness for both Masses.
Valve Zone - We are very fortunate to have that wonderful value zone at Main Street, Rathdowney where they carry an outstanding selection of party ware, household, garden accessories, wool etc.
Hospital - There is a great unease and worry about the future of the General Hospital, Portlaois. The plan to move surgery to Tullamore Hospital is not good. Portlaois Hospital has been so good and central to all the area, everyone is going to suffer. At all times the care of Portlaois Hospital has been super, there is no way we will allow our great hospital to be down graded. The loss of surgery and maternity would be a major disaster so it is up to each and every individual to commence the fight to retain all our services at Portlaois Hospital.
The Paddlers - The Woodenbridge Dualthlon Paddlers will hold a sponsored twin event in aid of the Make Believers Charity Group comprising of a dualthlon canoe/cycle and an all cycle tour on Sunday, July 10th. Both events get underway from Newtown Mill at 1.30 p.m. For more information contact Michael G. Phelan (087) 2395357 or Alma Ryan (087) 9434310. The Make Believers charity works with staff on the Paediatric wards of Portlaois Hospital and elsewhere as well as the central remedial clinic to help children who are coping with terminal illness and long term illness. Last year the Make Believers helped nearly 70 families from Laois and beyond to meet the real Santa Claus during their Winter Wonderland in Durrow.
