Roscrea Men’s Shed is a development in men’s mental health awareness and a programme of community empowerment through participation.
The shed as it is affectionately know has become a must for many men within Roscrea, the ethos that guides and sustains the group is, “men talk shoulder to shoulder” not face to face, and this is born out in its many varied projects and events. At present the members are engaged in a number of new and interesting projects, one which many residents groups have availed of is the making and distribution of bird nesting boxes and insect motels, these have been placed in a number of community gardens’ and wildlife areas, tying in with the Tidy Towns Roscrea campaign on wildlife and Irish native plants programme.
A new, and Roscrea-wide initiative is the Lets Clean Roscrea Day plan for Saturday 25th April, this is a Shed project for the cleanup of approach roads in Roscrea, in support of not just the Tidy Towns National campaign but to help communities develop a sense of ownership of their respective areas and estates, through participation and cooperation between communities, voluntary groups and the County Council. Neil Guerin Chairperson said at a recent meeting to announce the event that we all must see Roscrea and its environs as “our town, our estate and our home”. A number of companies and charities have pledged support for Lets Clean Roscrea Day; this is a very positive and encouraging sign of things to come.
The Roscrea Men’s Shed have many more plans and projects in the pipe line, with summer fast approaching the lads are eager to show Roscrea and Tipperary what a little positivity and a bit of work and cooperation can do ! The shed is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am, we ‘d love to have visitors and new members!
