Nenagh Choral Society is embarking on a major €75,000 fundraising drive to help complete its refurbishmenet of the Scouts Hall. The building is regarded as the group’s spiritual home and having fallen into disrepair, they took on its refurbishment in 2012, with work starting this May.

The Choral Society got a LEADER grant towards the work and has also put its own funding into the building through taking out a loan. They now hope to complete its fit-out through donations from the public that will be recognised when the premises reopens.

The public can become a major sponsor by donating any amount above €500. All major sponsors will be recognised on a separate plaque in the foyer; 200 patrons are being asked to donate €250 each. A plaque of patrons will be visible in the hall or people can sponsor a chair for €50. The society will need 500 chairs to kit out the hall. A grid of sponsored chairs will be visible in the foyer with each sponsor’s name attached.

The Scouts Hall fell into disrepair over several decades, with the doors closing in 2000. However, a submission to former Nenagh Town Council by Nenagh Choral Society seemed to represent its only means of survival and the council agreed to lease the building to the society, who would undertake its refurbishment. Initial estimates put the cost of the first stage at €300,000.

The society embarked on raising the necessary capital and a LEADER grant was secured, which, along with a substantial input from Nenagh Choral Society’s own coffers meant that the restoration work could begin.
