Rockwell College Principal will this week welcome the people of Tipperary to the College’s 150th Anniversary celebrations, writes by Sean Ryan.
The 150th anniversary celebrations at one of the country’s most prestigious schools will culminate with a special celebration this weekend.
Rockwell College in Cashel invites past pupils, former teachers, former staff and the wider community to join current staff and pupils for a special celebration at the College on Sunday July 20th next.
According to College Principal Ms Audrey O’Byrne “everybody is welcome on the day. The past year has been a fantastic celebration of Rockwell College’s heritage, with an October book launch by Dr. Maurice Manning (NUI Chancellor) of the History of Rockwell College by Dr Sean O’Donnell, an art exhibition at Cashel Arts week last November, a debating competition for all the College’s past debaters in April and a commemorative gathering for all past staff in early May.”
She added “Sunday’s event is the culmination of our 150th anniversary celebrations. It is a unique occasion for staff, parents and pupils past and present to come together with the wider community to celebrate the College’s unique heritage’’.
Gates will open at the College at 12.30pm and all visitors are asked to enter via the Main Gate.
A special open air Mass will be concelebrated at 2pm by his Grace Most Reverend Dr Dermot Clifford and the Holy Ghost Fathers.
A photographic exhibition, which will evoke past memories, and a presentation on the history of this famed College will run throughout the day and visitors are free to enjoy the atmosphere and catch up with old friends.
Tipp FM will be presenting live from the event and there will be children’s entertainment during the Mass. Light refreshments are also available.
