Swinging into Action in Clonoulty Rossmore - A great community effort has swung into action to raise funds to build a children’s playground in Clonoulty. The playground has already been designed and a site within the G.A.A. grounds has been generously donated by Clonoulty-Rossmore G.A.A.
This wonderful new facility will boast state of the art play equipment from the Crazy Daisy, Gym and Play Panels for the younger age groups, to the Wobble Bridge, Spinner Bowl and Supernova for older children. “This new facility, set in the heart of the Parish, will provide a very welcome addition to the area. It will offer a wide range of equipment and will provide challenging play for young children of all abilities, as well as being a positive social gathering place for the local community for many years to come” said Fiona Kennedy, Chairperson.
“Funding has been agreed in principal by South Tipperary Development Company Ltd., in the region of E140,000 but we have to raise E7,000 ourselves before the funding can be officially applied for. Our immediate priority therefore is fundraising and we have several events coming up, including a “do” in Coffey’s of Stouke, Rossmore. We have spoken with local businesses who have agreed to place collection jars on their counters, even small change adds up and bag-packing will take place in Dunnes Stores in Thurles over the August Bank Holiday weekend. We will also be organising the collection of old Nokia mobile phones and some exciting events for the whole family coming up to Christmas.”
The Committee have already started running Bingo at 8.30 p.m. on Sunday evenings in Clonoulty Hall. Monies raised through the Bingo are crucial as evidence of a steady stream of income to provide for ongoing maintenance of the playground must be provided when the funding application is submitted.
“Many hands make light work” so we are asking that all parents get involved in even the smallest way, come on Sunday evenings and play bingo; give just two hours of your time to the bag-packing; attend and support as many fundraising events as you can. This playground, which we hope to see completed during 2012, will benefit, not just the children of Clonoulty- Rossmore, but of all the outlying towns and villages.”
The next playground meeting will be held on Wednesday, 6th June, in Rossmore hall and the committee are asking as many people as possible to attend.
Gathering - The annual Connie Ryan Gathering will take place next weekend, 8th, 9th & 10th June in St. Michael’s Community Centre, Holycross. A great weekend is anticipated with music by Timjoe & Ann on Friday night, The Glenside Ceili Band on Saturday night and Johnny Reidy on Sunday afternoon.
