A.G.M. - The A.G.M. of the Hawthorn Social Club was held in the Hawthorn Lounge, Ballacolla on Wednesday, June 9th. The Chairman welcomed everyone and declared the meeting open. The Secretary read the minutes from last year. Due to the recession the Socials had gone down and the fall in attendance was causing problems. The main discussion was the future of the social. The Chairman and committee paid glowing tributes to Breda Dunphy, Secretary / Treasurer who did an excellent and impeccable job in a difficult year and kept the club in an very sound position. A vote was taken on the views of everyone which resulted in three quarters in favour of going on. It was then decided that the club would run on a trial basis for three months and certainly would decide the future so we have until September to decide. The Chairman thanked especially these who helped, Breda, Avril, Martin Ryan and also the Kennedys who retires. Votes of sympathy were passed with all those who suffered bereavements. He recalled all the members who had passed away over some years.
The trip to Lisdoonvarna will take place in September. The next social will be held in the Hawthorn on Saturday night, June 25th. We appeal to you all out there to come along and support this social and help the club to carry on.
