The majority of residents in St Joseph’s Park want extra ramps in their estate to combat speeding and protect children, according to the finding of a survey by Fine Gael’s Cllr Conor Delaney.

“I am calling on the town engineer to meet residents and me to look at the best approach because I don’t want to wait for a serious accident to occur before action is taken,” he said. Cllr Delaney acknowledged that a motion regarding the issue was before the September meeting of the council but the outcome was only to reinstate the two existing speed ramps at the entrances to the estate. “Once vehicles go over these ramps, 90 per cent of the estate remains unprotected,” he said.
