Abbey on T.V. - Good Friday night on the Nationwide programme, Holycross Abbey was featured, Ann Cassen was the presenter. Two of the Abbey guides, John Burke and Tom Gallagher gave Ann a tour and related its history to her. The Abbey and its surrounds looked very well and parishioners and ex parishioners who saw the programme were very proud of their heritage. Those who didn’t see its showing were very disappointed. It was a pity that its showing time was not announced earlier.

Thanks - The organisers of Pieta House and Down Syndrome Cake Sale in the Community Centre last Sunday thank everyone who contributed to this fundraiser.

Death of Peggy O’Dowd - The rather unexpected death occurred over the Easter weekend of Peggy O’Dowd (nee Pollard), Glenbane. In her nineties, Peggy had only being in hospital a day when she succumbed, up to then she was in pretty good health. Relict of Joe who predeceased her some years ago, Peggy was a hard working lady over the years, she was of a kind and inoffensive manner, friendly and a good neighbour. Peggy loved her cigarette and her flowers. Passing her house especially in Springtime and Summer time she could be seen on her knees sowing her plants and then enjoying them when they had grown. Peggy was a prayerful person and Mass goer, years ago when she hadn’t transport she either walked or cycled to her Sunday Mass in the Abbey and was always one of the first there. Peace to her kindly soul. To her sons Liam, Tom, Joe and Patrick, daughters Anna (Barrett) and Margaret, sister Biddy O’Neill, Cashel, nephew, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren we offer our sympathy. Her remains were brought to the Abbey and after Requiem Mass on Easter Sunday she was interred in the Abbey Cemetery. A large and representative congregation attended removal of remains, Mass and burial expressing sympathy to the O’Dowd and Barrett families.
