ICA MEETING: The July meeting of Borris in Ossory ICA Guild will take place in St Canice’s Parish Hall on this Wednesday May 4 at 8.30pm. New members are welcome.

GATEKEEPERS PROGRAMME: This is a programme which aims to develop thinking around the subject of mental health, its relevance to our lives today and the need and importance of maintaining one’s own mental health and general sense of wellbeing. Laois Partnership in association with GROW and the HSE is organising a five week course in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory on Tuesday nights at 7.30pm.

Topics to be covered will include challenges facing vulnerable people, life coping skills, Stress Management, Suicide, bereavement and loss, substance abuse and addiction.

PIONEER ASSOCIATION: Congratulations to seven members of the local PTAA who recently received Gold Pioneer Pins to mark 50 years as members of the Association. The pins were presented by Rev Fr. Jackie Robinson PP on Friday night April 8 during Mass. Those who received pins were Victor Butler, Michael Kelly, Mary Campion, Jim Campion, Eileen Quinlan, Ann Tynan and Kathleen Phelan.

Another member, Joe Phelan, received the Fr Cullen medal for over 60 years as a member of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association.

Rev Fr Jackie Robinson PP congratulated each member on this great achievement. During the Mass the deceased members were remembered. After the Mass refreshments were served by the pioneer committee in St Canice’s Parish Hall.

THE LATE MR PADDY LOUGHMAN RIP: The death took place on Thursday April 21 at the Mater Private Hospital, Dublin of Mr Patrick (Paddy) Loughman, Raheny. His remains reposed at his home until removal on Saturday April 23 to St John the Evangelist Church, Foxfield, Kilbarrack. Following Funeral Mass on Monday April 25, cremation took place in Glasnevin Crematorium.

The late Paddy was son of the late Thomas and Nell Loughman formerly of Killasmeestia, Ballybrophy. He is deeply regretted by his wife Anne, sons Stephen, Brian and Thomas, daughters Patricia and Helen, their partners, grandchildren, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.

WHIST DRIVE: The results of last week’s Whist Drive in Knockaroo Community Centre were as follows – Top score – May Comerford, Knockaroo, 1st lady – Nellie Conroy, Clough, 2nd lady – Sadie Delaney, Kyledellig, 1st gent – Sean Kennedy, Camross, 2nd gent – Mollie Bates, Coolrain, Halves – Katie Bennett, Cuddagh and Irene Delaney, Skeirke.

The Whist Drive continues each Wednesday night in Knockaroo Community Centre.

LOURDES COLLECTION: Thanks is extended to all who subscribed to the recent Lourdes Invalid Fund collection which was taken up at all churches in the parish. Thanks also to all the collectors. It is hoped to send two invalids from the parish on the Ossory Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes next month.
