Parish Priest Dies - The death occurred on Friday, May 17th at Cork University Hospital peacefully of Very Rev. Richard Canon Phelan PE retired parish priest of Ballycallan, Kilmanagh, Co. Kilkenny surrounded by his loving family.
The news brought great sadness to Rathdowney where Fr. Phelan had been curate for a number of years and was a very special and loved priest. He was greatly missed when he moved on. He became parish priest and later Canon. He is sadly mourned by his brothers Tommy, Johnny, Paddy and Jim, sisters Sr. Agnes SMG, Sr. Michelle RSHM, Kitty, Eileen and Peggy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, Bishop Seamus Freeman, all the priests of the Diocese of Ossory, his parishioners, relatives, friends and all the people of Rathdowney.
Concelebrated Requiem Mass was celebrated in St. Brigid’s Church, Ballycallan on Monday, 20th May. Burial took place to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ballykeeffe. May his noble soul rest in peace.
Confirmation - On Sunday, 19th May Bishop Seamus Freeman came to Rathdowney to confirm 62 children from Rathdowney and Errill parish. It was a very beautiful ceremony attended by a huge crowd. The weather was good. The Church of the Holy Trinity was looking excellent, expertly decorated. Great credit goes to our Parish Priest, Fr. Martin Delaney for the untiring work he put in. The entrance gates and walls were recently painted and the grounds were given a new look. Confirmation 2013 was a very special day.

Bealtaine Tea Dance - In the Macra Hall, Mountmellick on this Wednesday, 29th May from 2 to 5pm. Cost 5 euro which includes raffle and tea.
Maureen Culleton will be hosting the afternoon. Laois Partnership will provide a bus which will depart from Rathdowney at 1.15pm and pick up in
Borris-in-Ossory and Mountrath.
Outing - Rathdowney Senior Citizens’ Outing will take place on Saturday, 29th June. Bus leaves the Church at 9.30am for Dublin Zoo. Tea/Coffee on arrival, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre in the afternoon. Evening meal in the Dew Drop Inn, Kill. 35 euro per person.
Marathon - A bus will leave Rathdowney on Monday, 3rd June for those wishing to travel to Dublin for the Women’s Mini Marathon, seats are still available. Contact (087) 9121409 for full details.
Bingo - Every Tuesday night we have Bingo in the Community Centre, Rathdowney at 8.30 p.m. Great prizes and raffle. Your support will be greatly appreciated, do come along and bring your friends, a great night is assured.
