Noel Coonan TD has welcomed the announcement of €12.9 million to North Tipperary LEADER and €12.4 million to South Tipperary Local Development Company Limited as part of the revised allocations to LDCs. This represents an increase in funding to both associations.

Deputy Coonan explained: “The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Mr. Phil Hogan T.D, announced the notification to Local Development Company (LDCs) of their revised allocations under the LEADER elements of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 (RDP). This announcement releases the remaining €70 million of the revised Programme and includes both funding for projects and LDC administration.

“North Tipperary LEADER will receive €12,917,884 which is 133% of the original RDP allocation. South Tipperary Local Development Company Limited will receive €12,405,282 which is 112% of their original allocation. This is good news for local Tipperary projects who have applied for project funding.

The Department of Environment, Community and Local Government recently completed a full review of expenditure under the LEADER elements of the RDP. LEADER companies can now resume approving new projects and they have been encouraged to prioritise projects to ensure those with the highest impact are funded,” continued the Fine Gael local TD.

There are 35 Local Action Groups (LAG) contracted to deliver the RDP throughout the country and these groups are the principal decision-makers in relation to the allocation of project funding. Such decisions are made in the context of the local development strategy of the individual groups and in line with Departmental operating rules and EU regulations.

North Tipperary LEADER Partnership along with the other Local Action Groups has now been informed of their revised allocation under the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013. As we are reaching the deadline for project approval under the Programme, i.e. 31 December 2013, the allocation of the remaining funding will be monitored closely in order to ensure full take up by the end of the year deadline.
