Late Rita King - The death occurred peacefully on December 26th at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny of Rita King (nee Ryan), Cooleeney. She was in her early sixties and had bravely battled illness over the last twelve months. She was a lady of many talents and interests and these were reflected in the gifts brought up for the Offertory procession, an accordion for her love of music, a cookery book for her skill in the kitchen, a sewing machine for her expertise at dressmaking, a DVD of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, a cup as a reminder of her love of a chat or a coffee and photographs of her grandchildren who were her pride and joy.
Rita, a native of Grange, Gortnahoe arrived in Cooleeney following her marriage to Mikey over 40 years ago. She was an expert at computers and was highly valued for her secretarial work at Lisheen Mines as part of the Human Resources department where she had worked for many years. In earlier times she had operated a Grocery shop at her residence for a period. She was a wonderful wife and mother, a caring and loving sister and grandmother who will be sadly missed. She faithfully attended St. Mary’s Church where she was a dedicated Minister of the Eucharist and was well prepared to enter her eternal home.
Reposing was at Egan’s Funeral Home and her residence. Removal was to St. Mary’s Church, Moyne where a guard of honour comprising Ministers of the Eucharist, Readers, Members of the Choir and Collectors awaited the cortege. Principal celebrant of her concelebrated Requiem Mass was Fr. Pat Murphy P.P. assisted by Fr. John O’Connell A.P., Fr. John Joe O’Rourke, A.P. Gortnahoe and Fr. Martin Hayes, Adm., Thurles with Moyne Choir providing a fitting accompaniment. Following the ceremony Rita’s mortal remains were laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
