Mike Delaney recounts his Trekking Challenge in Kerala, India for CMRF.

“I have just returned from a 10 day trekking challenge in Kerala, India to fund-raise for the Childrens Medical & Research Foundation, at Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin and can say 100% that the challenge was both physically and mentally the toughest thing I have ever done, but ultimately a life changing and totally rewarding experience. At times due to altitude sickness where I could not breathe and every single step was torture climbing up the mountains, it was the strength and camaraderie of the team that kept us all going each day despite horrendous weather conditions and even when we were hit by severe monsoon rains and winds on the summit of Meesapulimala the second highest peak in the Western Ghats in Kerala, which made our 3 hour descent treacherous, we still battled on and kept going and reached our goal.

But if you asked me if I would do it all again, I would answer YES without hesitation, and the reason for this is the results of our collective efforts, because our group managed to fund-raise in excess of €350,000 for the CMRF, and that was what mattered, that crucial funds that are needed in the hospital were raised as a result of this arduous task undertaken by 70 or so volunteers, so I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to each and every one of you who contributed to my fund-raising efforts, by way of direct sponsorship or by taking sponsor cards for me to help me out, it meant a lot to me, and ultimately all our collective hard work goes to helping out sick children and their families especially in this tough economic climate. I will continue to be a fundraiser for this great charity, and to this end I am looking to build up a fund-raising committee for the future, so if you are interested in helping out, you can contact me on 086-8800597 or by email to michaeldelaneytemplemore@yahoo.co.uk. Again thanks a million to all of you, and if you ever see me fundraising in the future please try to help out if you are in a position to contribute,

Cheers Mike.
