Positive Ageing Week: Calling all Older Volunteers

To celebrate both Positive Ageing Week (23 September – 1 October) and 2011 as the European Year of Volunteering, Thurles Positive Ageing Week Committee are holding an event to celebrate the contribution of older volunteers to our community.

To be held on Friday, 30th September at 11.30 a.m. in Thurles Library. The event will feature a guest speaker - Ms Phil Prendergast MEP - and will be followed by refreshments.

We are now inviting all older volunteers in Thurles to attend this event. For the purposes of this party, ‘older volunteers’ are defined as 65 years+. While volunteers will not be identified individually on the day, we would like to ensure as many older volunteers in Thurles as possible, are included.

Please send your contact details to Ann Marie Brophy, Thurles Library at the Source, Cathedral St. or by email at thurles@tipperarylibraries.ie<mailto:thurles@tipperarylibraries.ie> or by phone on (0504)-29720.

This event is organised by Positive Ageing Week Committee and Europe Direct Information Centre in Thurles Library. This event has received funding from the European Commission.

It’s fisticuffs at The Source

It’s seconds away for Fight Night on Friday, 23rd September at The Source Arts Centre, Thurles. The gripping story charting the comeback of boxer Dan Coyle, a failed amateur boxer from a long line of accomplished fighters promises to be one of the theatrical highlights of the year.

Living in the shadows of his overbearing father and his brother’s Olympic success, Dan has one chance to come back and take the first step on the road to redemption. Aonghus Óg McAnally, who plays the part of Dan, comes from a well known showbiz family and was able to bring his own experiences growing up in the shadow of greatness to the play.

Fast paced and engaging, the show combines intense physicality with a classic Dublin wit, in a storytelling experience that will leave audiences exhausted and exhilarated. Friday 23rd is also Culture Night. So why not take part in the nationwide activities by visiting your local arts centre for a night of theatre you are bound to remember.
