People are drinking in car parks around Nenagh late at night, Cllr Tom Moylan told Nenagh Joint Policing Committee. The committee chairman said that drinking in public was a problem in certain places at this time of the year.
He named John’s Lane and Kenyon Street car parks as the main areas where people gather. He asked town manager Marcus O’Connor to carry out a media campaign higlighting the need to stamp out anti-social behaviour.
Insp Bernard Barry suggested that it might be more beneficial to tackle the problem through issuing on-the-spot fines.
Cllr Conor Delaney suggested that Nenagh Town Council should erect signs around the town urging people to report anti-social behaviour.
“We need to get the public on board,” said the Fine Gael councillor.
