The Late Tessie Cleere -
The death occurred on Wednesday, 10th April at Portlaoise General Hospital of Tessie Cleere of Cuan Bhride, Rathdowney and formerly of Middlemount. She had spent part of her life in Dublin and retired to live in Cuan Bhride. She was predeceased by her three sisters and is the last member of her family. Tessie was a remarkable lady, she settled into her new home, was outgoing and had a lovely friendly nature. She was always happy and content. She is very sadly mourned by all her nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends. Reposing was at O’Sullivan’s Funeral Home. Removal took place to St. Canice’s Church, Clough. On Friday 12th Requiem Mass was celebrated and followed by burial in Bordwell Cemetery where Tessie was laid to rest in the land of her birth.
The Late Mrs. Mary Thompkins - The death occurred on Tuesday, 9th April at her residence of Mary Thomkins (nee Mullins) of Ballygibben, Nenagh after a very long illness. She was born and raised in Mooreville and on her marriage she moved on. A very quiet and gentle lady she will be very sadly missed. Mary is deeply mourned by her husband Sean, her son, daughter, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, relatives, friends and neighbours in Rathdowney. Remains reposed at her residence. Removal took place to the Church of the Holy Trinity. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr. Seamus McEvoy. Burial followed to the local Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Meeting - On Tuesday evening, 9th April an Information Community Alert meeting was held in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise, organised by the Garda Siochana, Muintir na Tire and several speakers. There was a large attendance with many C/A groups represented. It was a very good meeting and new groups were encouraged to get involved. In the present time of so many robberies all people are asked to be vigilant and cautious. Two members from Rathdowney

Classes - Painting classes are about to commence in the Marion Centre beside the Church. Adults from 10am to 12 noon, childrens classes after school, a date will be decided later, hopefully on Wednesdays. For further details contact Elga on (086) 2485887.
Bingo - Every Tuesday night we have Bingo in the Community Centre, Rathdowney at 8.30 p.m. Great prizes and raffle. Do come along and bring your friends, a great night is assured.
