Juvenile G.A.A. - Ballina U/16s continued their good start to the football championship with a comprehensive win at home against Silvermines last Monday evening. The U/12s were denied victory by the bare minimum in both their matches last Friday night. The ‘Red’ Team faced a creative Moneygall side that used their limited possession very well. The ‘Blue’ team faced near neighbours, Portroe and although they started strongly, were eventually reeled in by a competitive Port outfit. Here’s to better luck next week when we play Silvermines and Templederry! The Club Shop is now up and running in the GAA Complex. Opening hours are Saturday mornings from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Camogie - This week our U/12s had two teams playing in the League. The Red team played in Lorrha. This team showed great strength and put in a very brave performance to fight off what was a very strong Lorrha side. The girls showed courage and great camogie skills, however the home team came out the strongest with a win. The Pink Team played at home in Ballina against Silvermines in another tough game and was fortunate to come out winners on the day. Well done to both teams and to the parents who supported them on the day! Congratulations to Eimear O’Brien and Katie Dunne who were chosen for the Primary School Games Football and Camogie trials. Katie is now through to the second round of the Camogie trials and Eimear performed quite well in the first round of the Football trials. Our Junior Camogie team completed their group games on Saturday last. Although beaten on the day the ladies put in another great performance and have done the club proud throughout the competition. The team is looking forward to the County League later in the year while our younger players will also have the Minor championship in July. U/16 and U/14 Co. Championship games continue this week. Our U/14s are away to Kilruane, and our U/16s are at home against Kildangan on Thursday.

Handball - Fergal Collins and Ger Coonan have brought another All-Ireland title to Ballina. They travelled to Kilkenny to take on Kildare in the Intermediate doubles Final and won the title in straight games 21-12, 21-6. Congratulations to the two players, who will now play in the Senior ranks next year. In our other All-Ireland finals, Martin McInerney & John Lee travelled to Moycullen, Galway to take on Mayo in the Masters B doubles final, but were very unlucky to be beaten 21-18 in the tie-breaker. The two lads came remarkably close, and the club are very proud of them. Our doubles tournament continues at the Ball Alley each week and spectators are very welcome. Games are played Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7pm.

The best of luck to our juveniles who are in action in the Junior Nationals Finals next weekend in venues around Clare.

Anglers - Last week’s competition was sponsored by Neiley Barry and we thank him for his continued sponsorship and Anthony and Anne Mills for the welcome food that awaited them after braving gale force winds on the Lake throughout the afternoon. Sunday’s competition (April 21) is a ‘Wet Fly’ Inter club competition between Mountshannon and Killaloe-Ballina. The weigh in will be held in Mills’ Bar at 7pm and tickets are available at T.J’s Angling Shop.
