Tidy Towns Committee members were very pleased with this year’s result which yielded a 5 point gain in this year’s National Competition giving a total of 265 out of 400.
The extra points were applied to the built environment, landscaping and tidiness. (National winners, Abbeyshrule, Co. Longford scored 307 points).
The Tidy Towns committee are very grateful to all who contributed in any way to the general appearance of the town by painting premises, displaying flowers and litter awareness. The targets could not have been achieved without the invaluable support offered by the volunteers who turned up each Monday evening for the clean-ups and the staff of the Urban Council.
They would to also acknowledge the huge effort of the new Residents Groups and a very special word of thanks also to Sonny Donohoe who, on a voluntary basis, did a brilliant job in maintaining the superb floral displays in the vicinity of the Town Hall. A full report will appear in next week’s edition.
