The Source Film Club will screen 'Chronic' in the Source Arts Centre, Thurles on Wednesday, June 1st at 8pm.
A nurse specialising in palliative care shows a different side to his personality outside of work in Mexican writer-director Michel Franco’s sombre drama 'Chronic'.
David (Tim Roth) is a home care nurse assigned to look after disabled or terminally ill patients. He tends to his duties with all the care and professionalism the job requires, displaying an enormous amount of patience and empathy as he goes about making life as comfortable as possible for each patient. In fact, his devotion to those under his care enables him to form an intimacy with them in a way their own families are unable to. However, outside of work, David seems a different person: awkward, aimless and disconnected. He stalks a young woman (Sarah Sutherland) both on the street and online and reinvents stories told about one of his patients to make it sound as though they happened to him instead.
It soon becomes apparent that David has unresolved issues of his own for which his job may provide some kind of outlet.
'Chronic' will be screened at The Source Arts Centre in Thurles on Wednesday, June 1st at 8pm.
Tickets are piced at €9 (€7 with concession and €5 for film club members).
