Tipperary on Target as Repak Celebrates Fifteen Years

Tipp North and South are “on average, if not slightly above average” in country-wide recycling figures, according to a recent Repak press release.

According to Cyril Maloney at Slattery Communications, “when combined, Tipperary is on the top fifteen”.

Last year, Tipp North recycled approximately10,192 tonnes of packaging, while the South recycled 13,204 tonnes. In the last fifteen years, North and South Tipperary combined have recycled 224,406 tonnes of packaging. Extensive figures for carbon savings, as well as the near exact amount of cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles, cereal boxes, and plastic refuse sacks were also provided by Repak. Country-wide his year, Repak recycled 652,000 tonnes; a 600% increase in the amount recycled in 1998.

Repak, now in their fifteenth year, coincided the release of their 2011 recycling figures with the launch of Repak Recycling Week. A series of events will take place in Dublin to promote recycling, as well as a country-wide “Every Can Counts” campaign that aims to push eco-friendly practices in the workplace and campus.

Last year, Tipperary South County Council and Cashel Recycling Centre, were finalists in the Repak Recycling Rewards for being the first recycling centre to gain both ISO 14001 and EMAS accreditation; both of which denote a high standard of environmentally-friendly waste management.
