Primary Schools Cross Championships

The first race is off in the County schools cross country championships in Thurles

The county schools cross country championships are running in the Thurles Crokes AC grounds all day today (Wednesday) with over 3,000 kids in action.

The Tipperary primary schools cross country championships are taking place today in Thurles Crokes AC grounds on the Nenagh road, with over 3,000 kids between the ages of 7 and 12 participating.

A huge organisational event, the races are being run in perfect conditions with sunshine greeting the athletes as they arrived in The Cathedral Town with their teachers from all over the county.

There are categories ranging from 3rd/4th class right up to 5th/class for major and minor schools, boys and girls, and there is huge excitement at the venue which has been well prepared by Patsy Dorney and his team of helpers.

The racing is expected to continue until well into the afternoon having kicked off at 10:30am with the busloads of kids arriving in the grounds from about 9:45am onwards.
