Ballyhoura Active series

After a break of a month we are back this Friday night in Mitchelstown for the 7th running of the GR8km . If you have been training hard over the summer now is the time to check out your gains, now is the time to see if that program you were using was as good as it promised. Galtee Runners have been using this new route for the last two years, the race starts at the fitness centre, which is in by Tesco at the top of the town. The race runs out and down from there straight through the lights and weaves its way around the town down to the traffic lights at the bottom of the town straight through here and then it goes out of the town. After a loop out in the country it comes back into the town and turns right back into the finish just 50 meters from the start line. This one of my favourite routes and Galtee runners AC normally get great weather for it, also running through the town the locals come out in force to view the spectacle and cheer on all the runners. This all adds to make a great atmosphere. So see you on Friday night reg from 6.30pm and race starts at 7.30pm. The race will have chip timing and our taste of Ballyhoura Hamper will be back and our Woolly Hats, Baseball caps and Buffs will also be there for the first 50 runners to register.

We also have great interest in our Duathlon at the bike centre, we have a limit of 50 places available this is for you if you have always wanted to do a Triathlon or Duathlon . There is a 4 km run on forest trail first then you hop up on your bike and there is a 6.5 km cycle up the fire road and then down the world famous Bike trails and then we have a 2km run to finish with. There will be refreshments after at the Bike centre. We have a few rules for the event as it is the first of its kind, you have to use a proper mountain bike you can hire one or bring your own no racing bikes or Hybrids or hi nellies, each of the routes will be marked stewarded and each section will be led and you will have to stay behind the leaders. We would like to thank Coillte for the use of their property for the night and all their help.
