Tom Blackburn is on a winning streak at the moment with wins in two hill runs this week. Tom was the comfortable winner of the Keeper Hill Wednesday League race last week. This is one of the toughest challenges of the league with a 500m climb and measuring around 13k in length. Robert Cunningham ran a good race, as did Ewan Cunningham and John Hayes.

A wet and windy Slievenamon didn't put 34 hardy runners off the challenge of this Munster Championship race last Sunday 19th. Tom Blackburn gave a masterclass in downhill running by making up nearly a minute on the lead runner, Martin McDonald, as they descended from the mountain. Tom won the race with only ten seconds to spare over the Laois man in second place. Robert Cunningham ran well, Tricha Blackburn won her category and Ewan Cunningham was the only junior to complete the race.

The next events on the hills will be the Wednesday League in Currabinny Woods in county Cork at 8.00 pm on June 29th. The formidable Galtee Crossing will take place on Sunday July 3rd at 9.00 am. This year the race will begin in Anglesboro and climb Temple Hill, cross the top of the Galtees and finish in Cahir. Entry is online only through

Fourteen club members traveled down to Bilboa to support the Bilboa AC 10k and 5k races last Friday 17th. This event was part of the Ballyhoura Active Series. Kevin Lenihan ran a very good 10k time of 43.02 over a tough course. He was followed by Robert Cunningham, Pat Hartigan, Kathryn Hogan, Carol Quish, Orla Hickey and Amie Hickey. In the 5k Willie O'Donoghue was just pipped at the post to finish second overall in an excellent time of 18.56. Ewan Cunningham was the first junior and next over the line for Mooreabbey Milers. Tricha Blackburn followed then, John Frazer, Grainne Blackburn, Niamh Blackburn and Claire Lonergan. The three Blackburn ladies took the top three women's prizes. Well done all. An Bru AC will host the next race of the series on Friday July 1st at 8.00 pm. This will be a 5 mile route.

There are just over two weeks to go to the 2nd annual Cahir Downhill Half Marathon. It will take place on Sunday July 10th at 10 am. The race begins in Kilbehenny and runs along the old Dublin road, 13.1 miles, to finish in the historical town of Cahir. Our chosen charity again this year is iCAN, which provides support to children with arthritis and their families. 50% of profits from this event will go to iCAN, the remaining will go directly back into our club development. Registration can be done through or see our Facebook page for more details.
