Boxing glory for Cashel
There were great celebrations around Cashel recently when a number of Cashel boxers claimed titles in the Tipperary/Waterford County Championships held in St. Pauls Boxing Club in Waterford.
Head coach Peter Whelan said “I’m so proud of all our boxers. They have worked hard for this and I look forward to bringing them to the Munster and hopefully All Ireland championships”. Samantha Doyle (16), Dawn Freeman (15), Jade Freeman (12), Megan O’Donoghue (12) and reigning All Ireland Girl 3 46kg Champion Linda Donoghue (14) all secured county titles in the Girls categories in their respective weight classes. Tom O’Reilly (14), Paddy O’Reilly (12) and Tom Monaghan (12) took home the titles in their respective categories. William O’Reilly (16) boxed bravely in the Tipperary/Waterford county final and was narrowly defeated in his weight category. Pride of place must go to Tom Monaghan who won his title and of all the boxers present at the championships, Tom had the honour of winning the “Best Boxer” title. He floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee and displayed the full range of boxing skills.
