Congratulations to Knockshegowna who captured their tenth North Tipp Junior Hurling championship following an exciting three point win over Toomevara at Nenagh last Sunday  

They now head the Junior Hurling Roll Of Honour (The O’Keeffe Cup) one ahead of Toomevara and Kilruane MacDonaghs. The top Three are

Knockshegowna (10): 1934, ’57, ’69, ’72, ‘74, ’88, ’89, 93, ’06, ‘13.

Toomevara (9): 1910, ’11, ’12, ’13, ’58, ’91, ’97, ’07, ‘10.

Kilruane MacDonaghs (9): 1950, ’54, ’56, ’60, ‘64, ’75, ’85, 95, ‘98.

Thirty seven teams have captured the North Junior Hurling championship since it began in 1910.

Minor ‘B’ Hurling Final 2013

Well done to Ballina who defeated Burgess to win their fourth North Minor B hurling title at Dolla last Sunday. Their previous wins came in

Play-off: Templederry 4 - 14 Silvermines 2 – 15

Templederry are through to the semi final while Silvermines must take on Toomevara in the second play-off with the winners of that game taking their semi final position

Ger Gavin North Tipp Minor A Hurling Final 2013

Nenagh Eire Og v Toomevara at Cloughjordan, Sunday 22nd Sep, T.i. 5.30pm.

Nenagh Eire will hope to make history in becoming the first team to capture the Ger Gavin North Tipperary Minor A title for the seventh year in a row should they defeat Toomevara in the final at Thomas MacDonagh Park, Cloughjordan next Sunday evening, throw in 5.30pm with Pat Gibson, Referee.

Currently the record stands at six and Nenagh share the honour with Toomevara (1993-98) and Roscrea (1958-63) and ironically the Greyhounds claimed their sixth in a row at the expense of Nenagh back in 1998.

Nenagh entered the championship this year with the new Mike Nolan Cup in hand and claimed a four point win over Newport Gaels. They continued with a win over Borris-Ileigh but came a cropper against an improving Roscrea side before restoring order with a 3-13 to 2-12 win over Toomevara. A walkover against Kilruane MacDonaghs and high scoring win over Kildangan put them in a semi final position.

Borris-Ileigh provided the opposition in that penultimate game but the holders proved too strong for the Borris lads.

Toomevara had an equally impressive win over Roscrea in the other semi final the same evening and they reached the last four based on wins over Borris-Ileigh and Roscrea. The four point defeat to Nenagh failed to set them back and when they re grouped to claim a walkover against Kilruane MacDonaghs before gaining victories over Kildangan and Newport Gaels.

Both sides has easy wins in their respective semi finals. Nenagh won at ease against Borris-Ileigh. Right from the start they took command and led 0-11 to 0-4 at half time before pulling away in the second half. Kilian Gleeson was the leading man that evening but the support from the remainder of the team can be relied on. There are well known names on the side which include Donnacha Quinn, Andrew Coffey, James Mackey, Gary Howard, Ger Gorman and Barry Heffernan. Michael Collins is a dependable full back and Anthony Walsh, Garry Howard and John Cahalan form a reliable inside forward line.

Toomevara appeared to be in a small spot of bother in their semi final win against Roscrea at half time but they sailed on in the second half to win easily. Mark McCarthy was their leading light a stop scorer on 0-14. But there are plenty talented players on the team such as Mark Grace, Kieran Flaherty and Jason Ryan in defence by Michael Brislane and Jake Ryan productive at midfield while Luke Ryan, Willie Coffey, Jack Delaney, Paul Ryan and Liam Ryan can provide able assistance for Mark McCarthy in attack.

P.S. Nenagh Eire Og won the last North minor final meeting between the teams in 2011. It was the sixth North final meeting involving the sides with Toomevara winning in 1932, ’97 and ’98 and Nenagh taking the honours in 1955, ’79 and 2011.

Under -21 A Hurling

The Under -21 A Hurling commences this Saturday with Borris-Ileigh to face Burgess in Nenagh, throw in 2.30pm. Kilruane MacDonaghs will take on Roscrea.

The remaining games in the round involve Lorrha v Toomevara and Kildangan v Nenagh Eire Og.

Junior A Football

Just one North Junior A Football championship game was played last weekend. Newport defeated Inane Rovers. The Portroe v Shannon Rovers game was not played as Shannon Rovers were unable to play and gave the North Board twenty four hours notice of their unavailability.

Portroe were awarded the game at Monday nights CCC meeting and Rovers wee allowed entry to the losers group.

Lorrha will now play Inane Rovers in the next game. The winner will join Newport and Portroe in the semi final proper while the losers to face Shannon Rovers on the weekend 27th or 28th September. The county semi final is fixed for October 6th

Intermediate Football

Borrisokane were given first place in representing North Tipp in the County Intermediate football semi final. Two teams entered this years North Intermediate football race and Kildangan has declared they are not taking part in the County should their hurlers continue to feature in the county senior hurling race.

Senior Football

Thomas MacDonaghs will take part in the county senior football championship next weekend when they take on J K Brackens. Best of luck.

Intermediate Hurling

Best of luck to Ballina who face Clonakenny in the County Intermediate Hurling quarter final next weekend and to Newport who take on Arravale Rovers.
