Borna Helena lands first leg of a double for Roger Dwan

Borna Helena initiated the first leg of a double for owner Roger Dwan when taking the fifth race at Thurles track last Friday night. This February puppy having the second race of her career was led in the early stages by Ericks Zig but took it up on the back straight to go right away and win by six lengths from Slaneyside Tulla in 29.48 with Group Returns another length back in third place.

The double was completed with Borna Trump in the final of the A4/A5 Inter Pub Challenge Stake. Here Point Zero made the early running but was led to the bend by Rosmult Hawk with Grannys Column taking it up on the back straight and leading to near the line where Borna came to a storming late run to get up by a short head in a time of 29.57.

RACE 1: The first race on the card was won by Michael Brown’s Larkys Gift (Lughill Lord/Miss Hannigan). Here Ballinroe Boy made the early running with the winner taking it up on the back straight and holding off the late challenge of Mias Treasure by three and half lengths in 29.88 with Kicking Gaels in third place.

RACE 2: Code Lady was prominent in the early stages of the second race the N2/A8 Inter Pub Challenge with Colmyard Jack taking it up on the back straight and leading to the home straight where Minglers Trickie(Royal Impact/Minglers Return) came through to win by three lengths in a time of 30.07.

RACE 3: The third race on the card, a sprint was won by Ger Everard’s Lisdaleen Sally (Goldmine Ramble/Goldmine Sally) who took it up at the top bends to go on and win by two lengths from Tipp on Air. The time here was 19.86.

RACE 4: The fourth race on the card the A6/A7 Inter Pub Challenge was won by John Kennedy’s Johnny’s Glory (Westmeath Joe/Expert Flash). Here Slaneyside Magee led to the last bend where the winner came through and went on to win by two and half lengths from Saddleback.

RACE 6: The sixth race on the card was won by Kittys Auntykate (Westmeath Hawk/Airforce Donna) owned by Kieran M White who made it two career wins when clocking 29.75. This February puppy was led to the top bends by Nanny Pearl. From here on she went away to win by three lengths from a staying on Rosmult Jenny.

RACE 8: Joe Fahy’s Ille Victoria (Crash/Unsinkable UK) won for the fourth time when taking the last race on the card and A3/A4 600 yd race in a time of 33.85. Here Kells Joy made the early running with the winner taking it up on the back straight and holding off the late challenge of Coalbrook Lass.

SATURDAY NIGHT

A good crowd attended on Saturday night, the Rathdowney Errill GAA Benefit night where Danny’s Zebo was the star of the show in the final of the CH Plumbing Stake. Showing his usual good turn of early foot, Danny’s Zebo (Hometown Boy/Windmill Chick) went clear on the back straight and held off the strong late challenge of We Was Happy.

RACE 1: The opening race on the card resulted in a close finish between Kathy Latieff’s Under A Spell(Ballymac Under/Clonoulty Belle) who made it three wins when getting the better in a tussle with Cuteen Pete by a short head in 29.62. Tedo Aura was another ten lengths back in third place.

RACE 2: The second race on the card, a sprint was won by Michael Rafferty’s Cabriol Prancer (Holborn Post/Carol’s Honey). Leading from flagfalll, this fellow made it eight wins when holding off Astons Jack by a length and half in 19.71.

RACE 3: This A4 event was won by Michael Ryan’s Glenback Cookey (Swords Prince/Glenbrack Nancy) who made it five career wins when getting the better in a tussle with Musical Nitewave by a half length in 29.51.

RACE 5: Another to lead all the way was Philip Fennelly’s Ballycaum Lass (Top Honcho/Shelley’s Crown) who won for the sixth time when making every post a winning one holding off the strong late challenge of Triangle Ace in 32.58.

RACE 6: Robeen Gold(College Causeway/Code Silver) owned by Philip Hayes made it two wins from five starts when coming in as a reserve to the sixth race. Taking it up at the bend from early leader Silverbrook Mar, the winner went on to cross the line three quarters of a length from Kevinsfort Haze in 29.64.

RACE 7: Padraigs Clarke’s Padraigs One(Kinloch Brae/Decent Lady) made a winning debut in the seventh race. Always in command, the winner went on to score by two lengths from Lyons Castle.

RACE 8: James Kenehan’s Balleen Sonic (Headbound/Lemon Shakira) returned to form with a bang when taking the eight race. Going clear at the sprint box after some first bend crowding, the winner held off Slaneyside Dave by a length in 29.79.

RACE 9: Diego Force(Diego Master/Private Ferina) owned by Paul Ryan maintained his unbeaten record in this stake and in the process making it five wins from seven starts in this the Thurles Poker Players A4/A5 stake final which had a winner’s prize of €1150.

RACE 10: Paddy O Donoghues’ Rorchach (Jamann/Ballylaw Jasmine) won for the fourth time when clocking 31.58 in the last race a 570 yd event.
