Tipperary’s Greg Broderick took a break from the chilly Irish spring weather and has just completed a successful spell at the prestigious ‘’Horse Show In The Sun’’ at Thermal, California USA where he recorded impressive results over the past fortnight.
The HITS Desert Horse Park in California is one of the largest hunter/jumper horse show venues in the United States and is the new home to the HITS Desert Circuit. This 230-acre, state-of-the-art facility officially opened in January of 2007 and boasts more than $20 million in improvements over the former location in Indio, including stabling for more than 3,400 horses and 14 competition rings, featuring a covered ring for all FEI World Cup Qualifiers offered at Thermal.
In last Saturday’s ‘’Jimmy Williams’’ 1. 45m Grand Prix, Thurles born Greg Broderick claimed a large portion of the $15,000 on offer when finishing in third place with the ten year old gelding ‘’Crown Joker’’. One of only 3 clears from the 48 starters, Broderick had the fastest time of the jump off but was denied victory when knocking the last fence.
‘’Crown Joker’’ was previously campaigned here in Ireland by Paul Devlin and is now owned by Lee Kruger of Caladonia Stables with whom Greg was based with for the duration of the Californian Show.
An excellent week for the Thurles rider was crowned with a win in the ‘’level 5 Jumpers’’ aboard ‘’Royal Ransom’’ on Thursday last, while a week earlier Broderick had a total of 4 wins with ‘’Tommy Boy’’ and also topped the standing’s in both 5 year old classes with a catch ride from Canadian based Jenn Serek.
