A good crowd attended Thurles last Saturday night where featured was the final of the Aidan Purcell Memorial A6 Stake kindly sponsored by the Purcell family which had a winners prize of E1800. Hee the all the way winner was the Michael Ryan owned Knockbrack Cookey [Swords Prince – Glenbrack Nancy] who showed a nice turn of early foot to go clear on the run to the bend and from here oon was never headed holding off the persistent late challenge of a strong finishing Mind The Net ini a time of 29. 47 with Scholar Pilot another four lengths back in third place.
Race one: There was an easy winner of the opening race on the card when the Margaret Barrett owned Jolly Dodger [Astronomic – Baltovin Trish] scored a massive eight lengths win. Leading from flagfall the winner stretched right away to win from Drumwood Hill in a sprarkling 29. 17,the fastest time of the night with Side Order another four lengths back in third place. The winner was making it seven career wins.
Race two: Another regular on the Thurles circuit was We Was Happy [Daves Mentor – Long Finger] took the second race on the card in a time of 29. 37. Owned by the One Or Six syndicate the winner was led to the beck straight by some Touch but took it up at the top and went away to win by three lengths from Some Touch with Skodas Gaffney another seven and a half lengths back in third place. The winner was making it six wins.
Race three: The third race on the card a semi final of the Thurles track Supporters Club A4 600yds stake was won by Derek Kehoe trained Slaneyside Jack [Hondo Black – Slaneyside Sue] who was initiating a double for his trainer. Running from trap on the winner was led to the top bends by Dublinhill Hawk but took it up here and went on to score by a length and a half from Kilmessian Wonder in 34. 08 with Kells Joy another short head back in third place. The winner is owned by Marie and John Brennan.
Race four: Kehoes double was completed in the fourth race when Slaneyside Yank took the second semi final. This son of Premier Fantasy –Slaneyside Sue ,owned by Sinead Brennan was led to the home stretch by PreTax Profit. Here Slaneside came through and went on to score by a length from Pre tax Profit in a time of 33. 58 with Thornbird another length and a half back in third place. The winner was scoring for the sixth time.
Race five: This race the third heat of the Tipp GOBA A3 stake was won by the Johnny Doyle trained Pakies Gamble [Goldmiine Ramble – Goldmine Sally] owned by Patrick Doheny. Makinig it four wins from five starts the winner led from traprise and went right away to win by seven lengths from Monganore Rabbit in a time of 29. 29 with Sup Katie another three lengths back in third place. The winner is a june puppy.
Race six: John P Butlers neon Burning [Ace Hi Rumble – Shanavalun Sally] took the forth heat in a time of 29. 55. Running from trap three the winner led out was passed at the top bends by Florida Beauty but came again on the home stretch to get up to score by a length and a half from Florida Beauty with Thurlesbeg Road another three lengths back in third place.
Race seven: The seventh race on the card a sprint was won by James O Connors Micks Cool Dude [Hondo Black –Parnell Daisy]who was impressive when clocking a good 19. 39. Here Crosstheriver got a flier and led in the early stages with the winner taking it up at the bend where there was some crowding and going on to score by three lengths from Gaytime Cody who ran on to be second with Derin Hope another twelve lengths back in third place. The winner was making it two wins.
Race eight: The eighth race on the card was won by Luminous Rock [Scholari Me Daddy – Luminous Flower] owned by Denis And Majella Lennon. Here Slaneyside Diego was the early leader and led to the back straight where the winner took it up and went away to score by two lengths from His Back in a time of 29. 38 with Slaneyside Diego another nine lengths back in third place. The winner was making it two wins from three starts.
Race ten: Drunken Thought [Ballintore Brave – Tai Lass] owned by the Cocktail syndicate and trained by Joe Tobin won for the sixteenth time at Thurles last Saturday night. Although headed in the early stages by Black Buda the winner was soon in command and went away to win by five lengths from a strong finishing Sive Dubh in a time of 29. 57 with Glengall Girl another half length back in third place.
