Allez Les Blues
In a game which was always likely to be won or lost by inches, the cruel reality of sport was laid bare for all to see in Semple Stadium on Sunday when Seamus Callanan’s ground stroke drifted past the right hand upright of the Town End goal with three minutes of normal time remaining in the County senior hurling final.
For the Tipp star to have netted in such dramatic fashion, and possibly secured the retention of the Dan Breen Cup for his side in the process, would have brought the domestic curtain down on a season full of frustration which saw him play only a bit part in the Premier County’s championship. Indeed, injury had robbed the tall, fast and athletic Callanan of much of the pre-season work and it was felt that following Tipp’s exit from the All-Ireland series at semi-final stage, that he had much to prove and plenty of hunger to boot.
