In the circumstances the Social Committee’s Friday night enterprise - a Table Quiz for teams of four was a very welcome indoor alternative. At the outset vice-captain Pat Murray, who chaired the occasion, welcomed the very good attendance, complimented Jean Butler and the Social Committee and introduced vice-president William O’Grady as the quiz master - a function he conducted with aplomb.

The format was of fifty questions at five per round, with the on-going position at the head of the scoring brought to notice at intervals between rounds after each return was scrutinised. There was a nice variety of topics among the questions between quite easy and rather tricky - among the latter a quota of mathematical conundrums which

tested the patrons, unanimity among the quarters wasn’t readily reached!

Ultimately, the top team achieved the creditable tally of 46 correct. The knowledgeable personnel involved were John Malone, John Coman, Joe Coman and Joe Coman Jnr. Behind them, on 45, came a triple tie necessitating a “sudden death” play-off. Orla McKevitt, Peter Cahill, Triona Gleeson and Maeve Ward were the successful group taking second place on the night. A raffle offered further opportunities of reward, those in luck being Dot Whelan, Rita Holohan, Brigette Behan, Ml. Sexton, Tom Fanning, Joe Tuohy, Ger Callanan, Louise Maher and Pat Fallon. The concluding feature of a very pleasant occasion was a Putting competition, won by Peter Cahill. Men’s Captain Jimmy O’Neill wrapped up the function with appreciative words as regards the organisation and the fine attendance. A repeat seems indicated.

Our sympathy is tendered to Jack Ryan on the recent passing of his brother Seamus, Portlaoise.
