Tipperary Handball Players Capture 2 All-Ireland Titles at Weekend

In Mullingar on Sunday David Hickey Ballina was up against the Ulster Champion James Brady from Cavan. David got off to a great start and led 9-1. Although Brady broke the serve 7 times he found it hard to make aces and David pulled away to win 21-2.

In the second game Brady was no match for the all round play of Hickey who picked the best of Brady’s shots and stormed to win 21/7 and capture the All-Ireland Junior Title. In the Emerald Masters A Singles Billy Mullins Clonmel was up against the Connaught Champion Kevin Gerathy from Mayo. From the Start it was a closely contested first game and Mullins was finding it difficult to take control but he finally settled in and went on to win 21/12. In the second game the Clonmel man was never troubled and went on to win 21/5 and take the All-Ireland title. In the Senior Singles All-Ireland Semi-Final in Abbeylara Ger Coonan Ballina was up up against 8 times All-Ireland Champion Eoin Kennedy from Dublin. After Last Years defeat in the All-Ireland Final Kennedy was determined to win back the title and was ruthless in this Semi –final easily overcoming the Tipp man’s best efforts to earn a place in the Final against the reigning Champion Robbie Mc Carthy Westmeath who beat Dessie Keegan Mayo in the other Semi-final.

In the Juvenile All-Ireland Finals in St Mc Cartan’s College in Monaghan Cashels U16 Doubles Pair Padraic O Donoghue & Daniel Hayes were very unlucky in their final against Tyrone’s Johnny Wood & Ryan Mullen. They easily won the first game 21/6 but let the Tyrone pair back into it in the second and lost the second game 21/17. In the dreaded tie break to 11 aces they were once again narrowly beaten by the narrowest of margins 11-9

In the U17 Singles final Jason Cahill meets Conor Noone from Galway in Cashel on Saturday 25th August at 3 PM.

In the All-Ireland Doubles finals next Weekend Tipperary are through to 4 Finals .

David Hickey & Mike Carroll Ballina contest the Junior Doubles final against James Brady & Patrick Clerkin Cavan. In the O35 A Doubles Paul Mullins & Adrian Johnson Clonmel are up against Vinny Moran & Cambell Brennan Mayo. In the Emerald a Doubles Billy & Pakie Mullins Clonmel take on Kevin Gerathy & Martin Cronin Mayo & in the Emerald B Doubles Eamon Spillane Nenagh & Gerry Foley Ballinahinch take on Jimmy Sheridan & Tony Kenny Mayo.
