Tipperary’s hurlers and footballers gave supporters something to cheer about at the weekend with the footballers securing promotion to Division 3 of the Allianz National Football league, and the hurlers winning a semi-final slot against Clare following a stirring victory over Cork in Semple Stadium.

Naturally both Managers were pleased with their outings, especially Peter Creedon who oversaw Tipperary’s third ever promotion in the league.

“We got a win and we’re delighted with that. Promotion secured and that was one of our big, big goals at the start of the year. We expected a big game from Leitrim and we got that for most parts. Big game next weekend again so we want to drive on to the League Final in Croke Park. I like winning every game we play so we’ll go at it, we’ll obviously let the U21 lads off to concentrate on the U21 Final against Cork but we have to be honest for the rest of the teams in the League as well,” he said.

Hurling Boss Eamon O’ Shea

It wasn’t perfect either but the nice thing is that we are beginning to play a bit of hurling. We haven’t done an awful lot in terms of the way we want to play the game. The pleasing thing is that we were trying to play the ball and work the ball which is really pleasing. Did a lot of work on the training pitch in the last weeks trying to get us to like the ball again. If you like the ball you can do anything with it. The players deserve great credit for eking out the win.

The league was not a priority in terms of when we set out the year. The championship is the priority. I felt last year that we put a lot of effort into winning the league final, and playing in it. I just wanted to be a little more relaxed about it this year but once you are in a semi-final, you want to get ot the final. I am not playing any games here, I want to win it. Our focus still is the championship and when we get to like the ball we will be better, We have to get to like it a bit more. There are lots of lesson to be learned over the next three weeks. We are just happy to be in the last four.
