County Senior Hurling Championship Round Four
Loughmore-Castleiney made light work of Roscrea at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh on Sunday afternoon and will now face Mullinahone in an eagerly-anticipated quarter-final.
John Carroll’s Roscrea certainly gave it their all, but they were utterly out-classed by a Loughmore-Castleiney side who always looked capable of upping their performance should the need arise.
Roscrea, for example, seized the initiative in the opening half, but Loughmore-Castleiney discouraged them when out-scoring their opponents 0-10 to 0-1 during a devastating 17-minute spell to lead 0-12 to 0-4 by the 28th minute.
Loughmore-Castleiney led by seven at the break (0-12 to 0-5), cleverly relocated Noel McGrath to the middle of the field in the second half and despite the assistance of a stiff breeze a Roscrea comeback never looked likely.
Noel McGrath and Liam Grath were exceptional for a Loughmore-Castleiney side who looked to be operating at a level far higher than anything Roscrea had encountered in north Tipperary this year.
Eddie Connolly also gave a dominant display at centre-back while Joe Carroll presented a very real threat for the Roscrea men.
During the opening five minutes Roscrea stole into a 0-2 to no-score lead thanks to efforts from Tommy Fitzgerald and Joe Carroll.
Noel McGrath and Evan Sweeney responded for Loughmore-Castleiney, but when Ethan Flynn fired over an impressive effort in the sixth minute we wondered whether we had a real contest on our hands. See this weeks Tipperary Star for full report.
