Public Have Their Say in Roscrea Enhancement Plan

CHAIRMAN of the Roscrea Town Enhancement Plan, Brian King, thanked the people of Roscrea and it’s surrounds for showing up in such great numbers on Thursday last to meet the consultants who will soon commence drafting the Roscrea Town Enhancement Plan.

The Chairman also thanked Michael Breen who kindly allowed the committee to use his premises in Roscrea for the day. The Chairman said it was very important that this plan was the people of Roscrea’s plan and not just the plan of those that make up the Enhancement group. He thanked Eileen Doherty who volunteered most of her day to help the consultants and he thanked Donna Fanneran from the Roscrea Youth Café for organsing some of their members to meet the consultants and thereby ensuring that the youth of Roscrea had a say in the future of their town. Brian also thanked Marion Carey from North Tipperary County Council and praised her continued commitment to Roscrea as she again demonstrated last Thursday. The Chairman also acknowledged Brian Keating from Shannon Development who traveled a considerable distance on Thursday morning last to participate in the workshops that also took place during the day in addition to showing his continued support for the town.

As regards the day itself, the Consultants were delighted with the feedback they received. This feedback will play a critical role in the formulation of the plan over the coming weeks. There will be further opportunities for people to have their say but this window of opportunity will be closing soon so all those who have yet to make suggestions etc are invited to do so as soon as possible.

The enhancement plan will identify a series of proposals for improving the town centre’s public realm - ie it’s streets and public spaces, prominent buildings etc. Already the Enhancement group is considering putting in place a sub committee of interested orgainsations with a view to seeking funding for the removal of the unsightly over hanging wires on Main Street. This in itself is probably too big a job for any single organsiation in the town to deal with but if the Town Enhancement group can facilitate the coming together of various organisations as it did recently for the RoscréBeo festival, then anything is possible. In the meantime if you have thoughts or suggestions for improving our town, please email Brian King at bking@roscreacu.ie. All information will be forwarded to the project team and will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
