Successful participants of Tricha Blackburn's 5k & 10k programme

The Munster Senior and Juvenile Cross Country Championships rolled into the village of Galbally last Sunday 12th. It was a proud day in the club's short history as we hosted our first ever Munster event and welcomed over 1,500 competitors to our home soil. The Galtee mountains provided a stunning backdrop to the venue which was illuminated with splashes of bright club colours and bathed in Winter sunshine.

The club, as always, pulled together in the lead up to the event with everyone lending a hand and offering their services in any way, shape and form. From traffic management to catering, no stone was left unturned and all feedback from competitors and their families was very positive. Numbers in each juvenile race averaged at around 100 so all hands were on deck to make sure all ran smoothly and efficiently.

Mooreabbey Milers AC had a number of juveniles taking part in various races from under 9 to under 19. Ruairí Cunningham put in a very good performance in the boy's u/9 race, in this his first Munster competition. Muireann Reardon ran really well in the u/11 girl's race to finish in 21st place and was part of the bronze medal winning county team. Leah Quane led the way for most of the girl's u/13 race but was passed as the race drew to a close. She fought hard and ran her heart out to grab third place overall and guide county Tipperary to a bronze county team medal. Oisín Fawl also had his first taste of Munster competition as he competed in the boy's u/13 race. He ran very well in a field of over 100 others. Bjorn Downes and Ewan Cunningham did the club proud as they took part in the fast paced boy's u/19 race which was 6k in length. Bjorn kept up with the fast pace and crossed the line in 7th place overall with Ewan running well too. Bjorn and Ewan helped Tipperary to a bronze county team medal. Huge congratulations to all our juveniles for representing club and county in such a proud manner.

It was wonderful to see a Tipperary athlete win the coveted Munster Senior Men's title on Sunday, congratulations to Kevin Maunsell on such a convincing win. The Tipperary men's team won the bronze county medal after great performances by Kevin of Clonmel AC, three athletes from Dundrum AC, one from Coolquill AC and one from Moycarkey Coolcroo AC. Congratulations to all.

The club would like to sincerely thank the community of Galbally for their patience and co-operation throughout the day as we dealt with a huge influx of traffic into our small village. Galbally GAA and Galbally RFC kindly allowed us to use their parking facilities which was much appreciated. Thanks to the Tipperary county board and the Munster board for their help and support during the event. It was a pleasure to have welcomed so many clubs and counties from all over the province to our home ground.

The very best of luck to our athletes who will compete in the Munster Masters cross country in Cork this Sunday. Best of luck to Stuart Moloney who will represent Ireland this Sunday in Derry in the British and Irish Masters Cross Country Championships.

Three Mooreabbey men made the journey up to county Wicklow last Saturday for the Powerscourt Ridge 16k trail and mountain race. Well done to Barry Hartnett, Robert Cunningham and Paddy Bourke as all three ran very well over this scenic, challenging, varied and enjoyable route. It's one to mark into next year's running calendar.

Congratulations to Kevin Lenihan who ran 39.49 in the well supported Thomas Kent 10k in Castlelyons last Sunday. Kevin was placed 19th out of over 500 runners.

Tricha Blackburn's Couch to 5k and Beyond programme came to a successful conclusion last Saturday morning. Tricha held a 5k and 10k road run in Lisvernane for participants of the programme. Donations were made towards the St. Vincent's Day Care Centre mini bus fundraising drive. Congratulations to all those who reached their goal of completing their first 5k and 10k distances, a great achievement for all. Tricha's classes will return in January by popular demand.

Mooreabbey Milers AC continue to train every Tuesday and Thursday in the community field at 7pm. All are welcome to join us.
