Daniel representing his country & his school, Thurles CBS, set 4 new personal bests on the day & finished with a final score of 3072 points behind a very strong English team who occupied the top 4 places. In his first event, the 60m Hurdles, Daniel shot out of the blocks to finish 2nd in his race & record the 3rd fastest time overall with a personal best time of 8.58sec. In his second event, he jumped 6.08m, the second best jump of the competition & recorded another personal best, going over 6 metres for the first time. The 200m was his 3rd event & he clocked 24.52sec, his 3rd personal best of the day. At the end of the 3rd event, Daniel was in 2nd place overall with the English making up 3 of the top 5 spots. Next up was the Shot Putt where he threw 10.73m but this was an event that was dominated by the English who started to pull away on points. In the final event of the day, Daniel ran 2.22.07 knocking just over 4 seconds off his previous best. However, the English again proved to be the masters of this event clocking up the points & finishing as the top 4 in the competition overall. Next best of the Irish was Matthew Dalton (Belfast High School) who finished in 8th place, with Jack Murphy (CBC, Cork) in 15th place & Aidan Conneely (Calasanctius, Oranmore) in 16th place. The team just missed out on the Bronze medal placing by 49 points to Wales but it was an exciting & educational experience nonetheless. Both Daniel & Matthew are under the age again next year & will be hoping to make the individual podium the next time.

The Club also had great success at the Munster Juvenile “B” Cross Country Championships in Newmarket On Fergus, Co. Clare on Sunday 2nd December where 8 of our athletes took part winning 6 individual medals & 6 Inter-County medals. The O’Dwyer brothers ran brilliantly & stormed home in their races with Adam winning individual bronze in the Boys U/11 race & a gold Inter-County medal with Tipperary as the 2nd scoring member of the team & Ben winning individual silver in the Boys U/13 race & a silver Inter-County medal with Tipperary as the 2nd scoring team member. Rhys Shelly also had a great race in the Boys U/13 coming home in 12th place & winning an individual medal & a silver Inter-County medal with Tipperary as the 3rd scoring member of the team. John Kirwan ran very well & placed 33rd in the Boys U/13 race just missing out on an Inter-County medal. In the Boys U/9 race, Peter Dillon ran an excellent race to win individual bronze with Stephen Walsh also running very well winning an individual medal when he placed 12th. Both boys also won a gold Inter-County medal with Tipperary as the 2nd & 4th scoring members of the team. Declan Ryan competed very well in the Boys U/15 race to come home in 17th place earning him a silver Inter-County medal with Tipperary as the 3rd scoring member of the team. Kieren Hennessy was Tipperary’s only representative in the Boys U/17 race where he finished in 7th place winning himself a well deserved individual medal.

Good luck to Jack Fallon & Ben O’Dwyer who will both be taking part in the Boys U/13 race at the Woodie’s DIY AAI Juvenile Uneven Age Cross Country Championships in Adamstown, Co. Wexford on Sunday 9th December. Jack & Ben will be part of the Tipperary team for the National Inter-County competition & Jack will also be part of the Munster team & we wish them well in their endeavours.
