Patrick Ryan from Tipperary town has been awarded his 2nd Dan Black Belt in Full Contact Kickboxing by Masters Pete Foley and Tony O’Donnell.
Patrick had to endure a gruelling grading session at the Black Dragon Kickboxing Headquarters in Galway City on Saturday before earning the coveted title. Patrick, who passed his 2nd Dan Black Belt test with distinction, has been training in martial arts for some 23 years now and is also the Chief Judge for Ireland for the IKF (International Kickboxing Federation). Patrick started out in Taekwondo, before moving on to Kickboxing which seemed to better suit his particular fighting style and as a youngster, he made the 100 mile round trip to Kilkenny twice a week with his coach Mark Collins to train at Pete Foley’s Black Dragon Gym as well as of course training at Collins club in Tipperary town. He has been an accomplished fighter in his time winning several junior freestyle karate titles and he also has a seven fight record in Full Contact Kickboxing that includes six wins (three by way of knockout) and just one defeat. Patrick, who is also a registered IABA Boxing coach, has been the main official for several years for IKF Full Contact & K-1 shows all over Ireland. Patrick has a PHD in Bio Chemistry and is married to his childhood sweetheart Emma (formerly Emma Cotter) - also from Tipp town.
